WHO I AM AND WHAT I DO

Moin, ich bin Toby aus Hamburg, ich habe 2013 meine erste Kamera von meinem besten Freund gekauft und wollte unbedingt wissen, wie sie funktioniert. Es folgten verschiedene Praktika bei Werbefotografen. Alle endeten am letzten Tag des Praktikums mit folgendem Satz: „Fotograf sein ist nicht cool, das lohnt sich einfach nicht mehr“ – weshalb ich mich entschloss, Fotografie & Medien in Bielefeld zu studieren und mit dem Bachelor abzuschließen.
Seitdem bin ich in den Bereichen Fotografie und Video aktiv – von Event- und Kongressbegleitungen über Werbe- und Modefotografie bis hin zu Video- und Audioproduktionen. Mein Portfolio umfasst Image- und Werbefilme, Live-Events sowie Firmenproduktionen. Zudem auch Audioproduktion und -postproduktion, mit einem besonderen Fokus auf Podcasts.
Oft wurde ich gefragt, warum ich mich nicht auf einen einzigen Bereich beschränke. Tatsächlich habe ich das ausprobiert – doch schnell gemerkt, dass mir die Abwechslung fehlte und ich mich damit unnötig limitiere. Für mich gibt es keinen Grund, mich auf nur einen Bereich in der Fotografie oder Videografie zu beschränken, denn die Vielfalt meiner Arbeit ist genau das, was mich antreibt. Ob die Produktion eines Corporate Videos, die Fotografie eines Firmen-Events oder die Umsetzung einer Modestrecke – jedes Projekt, unabhängig von seinem Umfang, verdient höchste Sorgfalt und volle Hingabe.
Dabei ist klar, dass die Produktion eines Corporate Videos völlig andere Anforderungen als die einer Werbefotografie stellt – das steht außer Frage. Doch dank des Vertrauens meiner Kunden und meiner jahrelangen Erfahrung konnte ich mir in all diesen Bereichen wertvolles Wissen aneignen und etablierte Workflows entwickeln, die Fotografie, Videografie und Audioproduktion individuell abdecken. Jede dieser Disziplinen bringt eigene Herausforderungen, Herangehensweisen und technisches Wissen mit sich. Um diesen Anforderungen gerecht zu werden, habe ich unzählige Tage und Nächte damit verbracht, zu experimentieren, zu lernen und meine Fähigkeiten stetig weiterzuentwickeln. Und wenn es mal richtig anstrengend und aufwendig wird, weiß ich um ein tolles Team freier kreativer Leute um mich, welche ich teils seit meinem Studium kenne, arbeite und vollends vertraue.
Diese Vielseitigkeit ist für mich kein Widerspruch, sondern eine Bereicherung. Sie ermöglicht es mir, flexibel auf unterschiedliche Projekte einzugehen und jedes mit höchster Professionalität und Kreativität umzusetzen – mein Anspruch bleibt stets derselbe: höchste Sorgfalt, volle Hingabe und ein Ergebnis, das den individuellen Bedürfnissen meiner Kunden gerecht wird.
Das Ergebnis von all dem ist einfach zusammengefasst: langfristige, nordisch-ehrliche, vertrauensvolle und freundschaftliche Beziehungen und Kommunikation auf Augenhöhe.

I’m Toby, based in Hamburg (Germany) I bought my first camera from my best friend in 2013 and really wanted to know how it worked. This was followed by various internships with advertising photographers. All of them ended on the last day of the internship with the following sentence: “Being a photographer isn’t cool, it’s just not worth it anymore” – which is why I decided to study Photography & Media in Bielefeld and graduate with a Bachelor’s degree.
Since then, I have been active in the fields of photography and video – from event and congress accompaniment to advertising and fashion photography to video and audio productions. My portfolio includes image and advertising films, live events and corporate productions. I also do audio production and post-production, with a special focus on podcasts.
I’ve often been asked why I don’t limit myself to just one area. I did in fact try it out – but I quickly realized that I lacked variety and was limiting myself unnecessarily. For me, there is no reason to limit myself to just one area of photography or videography, because the diversity of my work is exactly what drives me. Whether it’s the production of a corporate video, the photography of a company event or the realization of a fashion series – every project, regardless of its scope, deserves the utmost care and full dedication.
It is clear that the production of a corporate video has completely different requirements to those of advertising photography – there is no question about that. But thanks to the trust of my clients and my years of experience, I have been able to acquire valuable knowledge in all these areas and develop established workflows that cover photography, videography and audio production individually. Each of these disciplines brings its own challenges, approaches and technical knowledge. In order to meet these requirements, I have spent countless days and nights experimenting, learning and constantly developing my skills. And when things get really stressful and time-consuming, I know I have a great team of free creative people around me, some of whom I have known, worked with and trusted completely since my studies.
This versatility is not a contradiction for me, but an enrichment. It allows me to respond flexibly to different projects and implement each one with the utmost professionalism and creativity – my standards always remain the same: the utmost care, complete dedication and a result that meets the individual needs of my clients.
The result of all this is simply summarized: long-term, Nordic-honest, trusting and friendly relationships and communication at eye level.
